Overcoming Fencing Challenges in Southwestern Louisiana
When most people think of fences, they picture neat rows of posts, rails, and panels. What often goes unseen are the challenges that come with building fences in the real world — especially here in Southwestern Louisiana, where job sites can be anything but simple. At Cajun Fencing, we take pride in tackling even the toughest projects with skill and experience, ensuring that every fence we build stands strong and secure.
A Real-World Example: Protecting an Energy Transfer Facility
One of our recent projects highlights just how complex a fence installation can be. We were tasked with installing 2,500 feet of fencing around a sludge catcher area for an energy transfer facility in Patterson, LA. The goal? To enclose massive pipelines safely, protecting both the equipment and the surrounding community from unwanted access by people or animals.
This wasn’t your typical backyard fence installation. The site was filled with oversized pipes, heavy equipment, and limited access for trucks and machinery. Bringing in concrete trucks wasn’t an option — the ground simply couldn’t handle the weight. Instead, our crew staged concrete on site, ensuring the work could move forward without delays.
Hidden Obstacles Below the Surface
The challenges didn’t stop at the surface. This facility had decades-old underground lines — many of them unmarked. Digging blindly wasn’t an option, and hitting a buried line could have spelled disaster. To make matters trickier, the soil was full of shell, making traditional digging slow and difficult.
Our solution? We brought in a hydrovac crew to safely expose and clean out the post holes. This method uses high-pressure water and suction to dig around utilities without causing damage. Once the hydrovac team cleared the way, our fencing crew followed close behind, setting posts and building the enclosure with confidence and precision.
2,500 Feet of Fence, Built to Last
Despite the obstacles — from soil conditions to underground hazards — our team is making steady progress. Step by step, the fence is taking shape, wrapping securely around the sludge catcher and ensuring the area is safe, compliant, and well protected.
